The 2009 air show, which marks the centenary of the UK's first air show, included swooping displays from the infamous Spitfire, a low pass from a vicious looking Vulcan and an incredible performance from the world renowned Red Arrows.

Councillor Maxine Callow, Blackpool's portfolio holder for tourism and regeneration said: "This year marks 100 years since Blackpool staged the UK's first official airshow.

"We are delighted to celebrate this by inviting some of the UK's top aviators to the resort to take part in our free to watch promenade air display."

The show, which in the past few years has attracted over 85’000 visitors, was free to all that came and was held on the South Beach between South and Central Piers.

The first show, in 1909 attracted over 200’000 people and was held at Squires Gate - now Blackpool International Airport.
