Caribbean Carnival 2009

Preston - Preston

Part 2

The 35th Anniversary of the Preston Caribbean Carnival provided an electric atmosphere and pulled in huge crowds.

Great spring time weather beat down on performers and spectators alike as the procession moved from Moor Park, round the city centre, before finally settling down in Avenham Park for a stunning stage show.

Thousands of people lined the streets which were stuffed full of dancers and musicians dressed in bright, vibrant costumes.

The event successfully secured arts council funding in 2008 to see the Carnival continue until after 2010 which is great news for the oldest running event in Preston after the Guild.

The carnival was created when West Indian immigrants organized a small procession through the city streets to remember the great carnivals back home.
