Victoria Park Southport

The Cancer Research UK 10k run, was held at Victoria Park in Southport.  Over 1,000 runners made their way along Marine Drive with the iconic views of Southport Pier and Blackpool Tower in the distance to keep them focused.

At Marine Bridge the runners crossed over the lake and continued along the promenade, before returning to the Park.

This years winner was Graham Rooney from Formby. The Race was also supported by the girls from the channel 4 series Hollyoaks.

Many emotional stories were evident as the participants set off around the park. Some runners proudly wore shirts stamped with the names of lost loved ones, while some just ran in the hope of making a difference, but all were there, in fairy wings or wigs, to raise money for Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work.

Over 150,000 people lose there lives to cancer each year. It's a disease which has no boundaries and can affect any age, any sex, any culture, anybody.  It's effect is devastating not only to the sufferer but their friends and family as well.
