New Raised Track now open
On a fantastically sunny April 1st, The Mayor of South Ribble, Cllr. Jim Marsh and Mrs Susan Marsh were on hand to open the Leyland Society of model engineers new raised track extention in Leyland's Worden Park.
The Society that has just celebrated 10 years of model making, meet once a fortnight at the Farrington Conservative Club.
At the Park they have an extensive (1617ft) continuous raised track in 3½ and 5 inch gauges. The ground level seven and a quarter track has also been redeveloped.
The complete circuit (1 kilometre), station and sidings were all open, and the public came out in full support
Jonny and the crew of Lancashire One received a warm welcome with a cup of tea and a ride around the new track.
The track is now fully finished and is fantastic! Trains are now running on Sundays right through the summer. Rides are free, all they ask is a small donation to cover the cost of the coal.
Chairman John Barr said "I have done a few laps with various locos and can only say that it was worth all the hard work. It is so smooth and easy running. Thanks must go to all the members who have worked so hard over the winter."
