Photo Competition Winner!

Date: 04/06/12

Lancashire One are pleased to announce our very first photography competition winner - Rachel Hurvitz!

Registering her entry all the way from the States, Rachel returned home to America after completing her MA in Graphic Design at the University of Central Lancashire, but returned with more than just memories of her time in the Red Rose County.

"I'm a yank, and I spent the last two years living in Preston."

"I recently graduated with an MA in Graphic Design from UCLAN. I've always enjoyed photography as hobby, I guess because I love showing people the world from my perspective."

"I love to photograph settings that most people normally don't find beautiful like old buildings, rubbish, and abandoned lots. Everything is beautiful, you just have to look for it properly."

We chose this photograph of Rachel's, not least because it makes Blackpool Beach look like Majorca, (and it's minimalist approach suits the background of the website perfectly), but because it beautifully highlights a Great British and Lancastrian summer tradition, a day at the seaside!

... but this wasn't the only picture Rachel sent us, there were actually several more fantastic snaps that made up a wonderful homage to Lancashire's famous seaside town.

We asked her to tells us a little about why she chose the pictures that she did.

"I've always found Blackpool to be an interesting atmosphere, both the people and the landscape, it's not a place people typically describe as beautiful but I've always had a soft spot for it ever since my first visit."

"These photographs were taken by the Central Pier in Blackpool and show a beautiful quaintness that I think most people from Lancashire take for granted."

If you have a passion for photography and a love for Lancashire, send us your pictures to jonny@lancashireone.com.
