Whitsuntide Festival 2010
Date: 22/10/10 Duration: 3.24 Minutes
Ribble Valley - Goosnargh
at Goosnargh and Whittingham
The Goosnargh & Whittingham Whitsuntide Festival was again blessed with beautiful weather, as locals and visitors alike came to join in the celebrations.
Whitsuntide festival dates back hundreds of years, however, this year it was entitled 'Maisies’s Festival' in honor of Maisie Kitching who, even after reaching the grand age of 100 is still a keen supporter of the event.
Along with Maisie, hundreds of others enjoyed the traditional English entertainment of May Pole dancing which was skillfully performed by the local school children. Brass bands, dancers, entertainers and a full Scottish pipe band were on hand to make it a memorable event.
The traditional highlight of the day was the moment when new May Queen Bethany Williamson was crowned by last year’s queen Rebecca.
There were also prizes on offer for the large and small floats and fancy dress entrants.
The huge raffle went down a storm and in true country spirit everyone got involved with clearing up. If there is one thing for certain about this historic event, it’s that it will be back again next year.
