The Torchlight Procession

The second Saturday of Guild Week saw the eagerly anticipated Torchlight procession through Preston.

Remembered for being the most popular event of the 1992 Guild, there was a lot of pressure on those taking part, to deliver as bright and as colourful an occassion as those old enough to remember the previous one could expect.

With nearly 3000 people taking part and many, many more lining the streets of the city to get a good view of the action, few could have predicted as successful a evening it was going to be.

As it had been all week, the weather remained warm and dry, and the floats, local community groups, businesses and organisations created a cacophany of sound and colour as they paraded past the onlooking crowds.

Fire, costumes, props, dancing, live music, bright lights and a landscape of waving hands, made the Torchlight Procession once again live up to its reputation as one of the most memorable events of Guild Week.

As an extra treat, onlookers were treated to a rare and...interesting display of dancing from Lancashire One presenter Jonny Nelson, as Gulab Singh MBE hauled him infront of the procession to participate. (Look out for that on 12 minutes and 10 seconds).
