The Guild Proms

Date: 12/09/12

As Guild Week approached it's final weekend, Avenham Park once again took centre stage, as it was transformed into a spectacular open-air amphitheatre, for the Proms in the Park.

Around ten thousand people flocked to see the world famous Operatic star and legendary tenor, Jose Carreras, and internationally renowned Welsh Mezzo Soprano, Katherine Jenkins, take centre stage together with the Manchester Camerata orchestra.

Perhaps most famous for being one of 'the Three Tenors', along with Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti, his performaces in Operas such as Verdi and Puccini have awarded Carreras the reputation as one of the most revered voices in Opera.

Ketherine Jenkins wowed the audience of Avenham on the night, with both her vocal telents and speedy wardrobe changes. The Welsh beauty, boasting over 7 million albums sold worldwide, wowed the Avenham crowds with a mixture of operatic and classical-crossover numbers, including Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah'.
